London to Edinburgh Bike Ride – May 2006
A team of cyclists has raised over £35,000 for the Royal Free Hospital’s Quiet Cancer Therapy Appeal on a seven-day bike ride between London and Edinburgh.
The trip was organised by Barry Jones and inspired by his wife who was diagnosed with NETs two and a half years ago at the age of 38.
Barry said ‘The ride was terrific, the core six riders made it the full distance 512 miles zig-zagging up B roads up the country. There were some real adventures along the way,’
Those adventures included Barry somersaulting off his bike just 20 miles from the finish line.
But he carried on regardless. ‘ We were greeted in Edinburgh by a piper, a couple of bottles of champagne and family who had flown up. Fabulous!’
Apart from sponsorship the team auctioned off a signed Tottenham Hotspurs football which for £350.
The picture shows the team shortly after their arrival in Edinburgh – exhausted but happy! What an achievement – congratulations from the NET Patient Foundation Team.
